NOT YOUR BUNNY

I was born in the year of the Rabbit in China. Born a girl instead of the boy my family was hoping for, I threw myself against the prescribed culture assigned to my gender.

The bunny became an emblem of docile female submission in my mind, the ultimate symbol of conformity. Throughout this series, I have grappled with this symbol and its associations with the spirit of “Anti.” At once embracing it and wanting to reinvent it. The bunny is a complicated mascot of sexism, death, and the hidden parts of the human psyche.
